There’s something so truthful about the use of paint.
There’s nowhere to hide, the work reveals itself and the artist who created it.
There’s always an honest expression that flows through the artists hand and evidence to its authorship.
No two painters can create the same art. What a relief!
The medium itself reveals the personality of its creator. I love that the artist’s touch is always so authentic and the more they paint, the more who they are can be seen for who they are, beyond that it can even be felt.
Working from instinct, imagination and inspiration it's truly exciting to watch another artist emerge with their uniqueness.
As they trust the process and move past their fears a place of freedom and beauty is seen...
How do we engage in this process?
Firstly by focusing our minds on receiving truth, then our direction becomes more clear and our journey down the path is lit ahead of us.
I started a practicing awareness and listening for the voice of the Holy Spirit as I worked. Togther with this I began finding bible verses especially from psalms and proverbs to think on as I undertook each new painting session. Poetry books can also work as they challenge your thinking and draw artistry to the surface.
When this becomes part of your art practice it is easier to discern what is good to dwell in visually and what is pushing on our senses that might be harmful to our art.
Anchoring back during the day to useful affirmations and promises can help us hold truth close which can save a lot of time and keep us in the flow of creativity, lessen any self-sabotaging behaviour and prevent us from spinning wildly between different influencers that pull on our affections.
I have learnt that more truth is always my direction! This always leads to beauty, which always leads to freedom.
Can you feel your own hunger for truth that inspires and nourishes your soul? I hope so. I'd love to see what takes form when artistry is born.

"And he filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills - to make artistic designs...he filled them with skill to do all knids of work as engravers, designers, embroiderers in blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen, and weavers - all of them skilled workers and designers." Exodus 35:30-35 (to create all the articles used in the temple services)
"Go down to the potters house and there I will give you my message" so I went down to the potters house and I saw him working at the wheel...{then the Lord said} - "Can I do with you Israel, as this potter does, like clay in the hand of the potter are in you in my hand, Israel." - Jer 18:3
"In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay: some are for special purposes and some are for common use. Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do every good work. " - 2 Tim 2:20, 21
